'Artificial' Sounds Fake: Trump Proposes Renaming AI 'Super Intelligence' in UN Speech

President Trump has announced that the U.S. government will replace the term "artificial intelligence" with "super intelligence" in its documents, saying the word "artificial" makes intelligence sound fake.

Trump made the announcement on Tuesday while addressing the United Nations General Assembly in New York, days after asking the public to vote on alternative names for AI. He said the U.S. would use "super intelligence" going forward and urged other countries to adopt the term.

"The use of the word artificial makes intelligence fake, it makes it sound fake and it is not fake. It's actually amazing," Trump said during his UN address.

The new name was not among the options in Trump's original poll. On September 19, he had proposed Superior Intelligence, Extreme Intelligence and Supreme Intelligence as alternatives to artificial intelligence.

Trump's renaming push comes as the U.S. debates how quickly increasingly capable AI systems should be developed and whether additional safety measures are needed.

In his UN speech, Trump dismissed warnings about the technology and said the U.S. should not restrict its development. He described AI as a major technological transformation and linked leadership in the technology to global power.

BABA Stock Spikes Overnight: Alibaba Takes On Nvidia With China's Most Powerful AI Chip Yet

U.S.-listed shares of Alibaba Group Holding rose more than 2% in overnight trading late Monday after the Chinese tech giant unveiled a new AI accelerator that it says is China's most powerful AI chip yet, intensifying competition with Nvidia as Beijing pushes to build a domestic alternative to U.S. technology.

The company's T-Head semiconductor unit introduced the Zhenwu V900, which Alibaba CEO Eddie Wu said delivers three times the performance of its predecessor. The accelerator can be deployed in clusters of up to 500,000 chips to support the training of large, frontier AI models. The chip is expected to enter mass production in early 2027.

The launch adds another potential challenge for Nvidia, whose high-end AI accelerators have become the industry standard for training and running advanced models but face export controls in China. NVDA stock was marginally higher in overnight trading late Monday.

Alibaba's combination of increasingly capable domestic hardware and expanding cloud infrastructure could allow Chinese companies to develop and deploy AI systems with less reliance on Nvidia, particularly as U.S. export restrictions limit Chinese access to the most advanced American chips.

The video from these cameras can easily be fed through a free AI that can perfectly read lips, word for word. Performed by a free chatbot app anybody can download, plus two amateur lip-reading projects off a public code page.

Anyone with a laptop can do what used to take a spy agency.

The investment angle is obvious: This is just one of one million applications AI is moving into. All of them take a lot of compute. That's not slowing down.

The privacy angle is also obvious. Assume you're always on record.
