The Milky Way Just Got Sweeter

A Sweet Discovery: Astronomers Say Sugar Is Lurking in the Space Between Stars

The space between stars just got a little sweeter.

Astronomers have detected a type of sugar in space that's also found in raspberries and self-tanners. The sugar, called erythrulose, lurks in what's called the interstellar medium: thin clouds of gas and dust littered between stars.

Using two dish-shaped radio telescopes in Spain, researchers collected data from a large gas cloud near the center of the Milky Way. They identified the sugar in gas form by comparing telescope signals to samples in the lab. It's the latest kind of sugar detected in space.

The results were published Monday in the journal Nature Astronomy.

This sugar can easily convert to a form that's thought to be crucial to kick-starting life on Earth. And it's one of the most complex sugars spotted so far.

These interstellar investigations are all about understanding how life got started. Did faraway comets or space rocks deliver the essential ingredients to us? Or were the essential components already present in the cloud of gas and dust that eventually gave rise to our solar system?

The new sugar lends evidence to the latter theory. Researchers want to look for more sugars in space and learn about how they convert to different forms.

Charles Duhigg Lost 45 Lbs on a GLP-1 | Why Food Noise Vanishes

I recently started taking a GLP-1 – tirzepatide, one of the so-called weight-loss drugs. I had some blood work done, and there was a small indication that I might be pre-diabetic. My doctor suggested trying tirzepatide, and I wanted to understand what I was getting into.

The first person I wanted to talk to was Charles Duhigg, author of The Power of Habit and Supercommunicators. Charles has been taking a GLP-1 for about two years, and he says it has changed his life. He has lost around 45 pounds, but what interested me most was not just the weight loss. It was the habit change.

In this episode of The James Altucher Show, Charles explains that GLP-1s can quiet what people now call “food noise” – the constant background pull toward eating even when you are not actually hungry. When that noise quiets down, something interesting happens: You get a chance to build new routines around food, exercise, and more.

In our discussion, we talk about food noise, cravings, the habit loop, keystone habits, stated versus revealed preferences, placebo effects, alcohol, sleep, exercise, blood sugar, identity, and whether GLP-1s are a lifelong drug or a tool for changing who you become.

China’s EV-Maker Targets 1,000 Iron Humanoid Robots Monthly Ahead of 2027 Global Rollout

Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker Xpeng is accelerating production of its Iron humanoid robot. The firm is aiming to boost manufacturing capacity to more than 1,000 units per month by the end of 2026 ahead of a planned global rollout in 2027.

The company will first deploy the robots as sales assistants in its China showrooms during the first quarter of 2027 before expanding them to overseas stores later that year.

The robot is powered by a lightweight all-solid-state battery, which XPENG says improves safety, reduces heat generation, and extends operating time compared with conventional battery technologies.

Iron also runs XPENG’s Vision-Language-Action (VLA) AI model, which directly links visual understanding and language comprehension with physical actions.

According to experts, the planned production expansion of Iron highlights XPENG’s strategy to evolve beyond EVs into a broader physical AI company. By integrating artificial intelligence, robotics, and smart mobility technologies, the automaker aims to establish a foothold in the emerging humanoid robotics market while leveraging expertise developed for autonomous driving and continuing to expand its core EV business.
