NVIDIA Makes First Major Move in ‘Physical AI’ With Jetson Thor, Giving Humanoid Robots Their Own Brain to Make Them Smarter and More Capable

According to a new blog post, NVIDIA has launched the Jetson Thor modules, which bring in much higher compute capabilities than its Jetson Orin series, and more importantly, have opened up the way for humanoid robots.

Jetson Thor is equipped with the new Blackwell-based Jetson T5000 module, offering 14 ARM Neoverse-V3AE CPU cores and a 2560-core GPU. NVIDIA claims that the latest platform brings in 7.5x more AI compute, 3.1x more CPU performance, and 2x more memory, allowing it to run genAI frameworks and reasoning models. Ultimately, the intention here is to give robots a capable brain to serve humans.

NVIDIA has disclosed that Agility Robotics and Boston Dynamics, two of the most reputable names in robotics, have started deploying Jetson Thor systems in their products. This means that we might see capable robots from them soon.

Now, with such computing power onboard, there's indeed a tradeoff in the form of the cost to acquire such systems. NVIDIA has priced the Jetson AGX Thor developer kit at $3,499, which is a hefty figure when you consider the overall costs in building humanoid robots.

Trump Media, Crypto.com To Launch Crypto Treasury Firm via SPAC Deal

Trump Media & Technology Group and Crypto.com have said they will form a company that will pursue a treasury-style strategy to accumulate the cryptocurrency platform's native token cronos, cementing the U.S. president's ties to the industry.

The new company, Trump Media Group CRO Strategy, will go public via a merger with blank-check firm Yorkville Acquisition Corp and be listed on the Nasdaq as "MCGA".

After Tuesday's announcement, the crypto token shot up 29.6% to $0.20. Trump Media's shares jumped 5.2% to $18.11, while Yorkville's shares fell 2.4%.

Cronos has a market valuation of $6.8 billion, a fraction of the $3.88 trillion global crypto market cap.

Funding for the latest crypto venture will consist of $1 billion in cronos token, $200 million cash, $220 million in warrants and an additional $5 billion equity line of credit from a Yorkville affiliate.

Meanwhile, Trump Media agreed to buy $105 million in cronos for its balance sheet, while Crypto.com said it would purchase $50 million of Trump Media's common stock.

First-Ever Pig-to-Human Lung Transplant Attempted in Brain-Dead Person in China

In a first-of-its-kind experiment, doctors in China transplanted a lung from a genetically modified pig into a brain-dead person.

Similar experiments involving brain-dead patients have previously taken place in the U.S., but they involved different pig organs, such as kidneys and hearts, and a previous experiment in China involved a pig liver.

These experiments have paved the way to transplants of pig organs into living human patients, although only a handful of those procedures have been performed so far.

The recent experiment, described Monday (Aug. 25) in the journal Nature Medicine, took place in Guangzhou, China, and involved a 39-year-old male who had been declared brain-dead prior to the procedure. The team confirmed that the patient was brain-dead through four different assessments and gained written informed consent from his family to perform the experiment, according to the report.
