Elon Musk, a Fierce Davos Critic, Tells World Economic Forum That Robots Will Outnumber Humans

Elon Musk, a long-time critic of the World Economic Forum's annual event in Davos, Switzerland, appeared at the gathering for the first time on Thursday, where he predicted that robots will eventually outnumber humans.

Musk has previously dismissed the event, which this week is hosting multiple heads of state, business figures and others, including President Trump, President Emmanuel Macron of France and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

Asked about the goals of his companies, which include electric car maker Tesla and space exploration business SpaceX, Musk said that Tesla's mission now includes "sustainable abundance" through the development of robotics. Tesla is currently developing a humanoid robot, dubbed Optimus, as well as automated robotaxis.

"With robotics and AI, this is really the path to abundance for all," Musk told BlackRock CEO and WEF co-chair Larry Fink in a one-on-one interview. "People often talk about solving global poverty – how do we give everyone a very high standard of living? The only way to do this is AI and robotics."

Musk added that he envisions a day when robotics are "ubiquitous," which he said would unleash "an explosion in the global economy."

Jeff Bezos To Challenge Elon Musk’s Space Dominance With 5,408-Satellite Network

Jeff Bezos is no longer content with just delivering packages or sending celebrities to the edge of space. His rocket company, Blue Origin, has set its sights on the global internet.

On Wednesday, Blue Origin unveiled TeraWave, a communications network consisting of over 5,400 satellites.

Scheduled to launch by the end of 2027, the service aims to provide global internet access with a particular focus on high-capacity data needs.

“TeraWave addresses the unmet needs of customers who are seeking higher throughput, symmetrical upload/download speeds, more redundancy, and rapid scalability,” said Blue Origin’s press statement.

Blue Origin’s multi-thousand-satellite plan is ambitious, yet it still pales in comparison to the massive orbital footprint already established by market-leader Starlink.

Both come with different target audiences. TeraWave aims to cater to the high-end market: data centers, national security agencies, and global corporations. Starlink, owned by SpaceX, provides internet services to everyday users.

Here’s What You Should Know About the U.S. TikTok Deal

TikTok, owned by the Chinese company ByteDance, has been at the center of controversy in the U.S. for years now due to concerns about user data potentially being accessed by the Chinese government.

As a result, U.S. users have often found themselves caught in the middle of this tension. Last year, the app experienced a temporary outage in the U.S. that left millions of users in suspense before it was quickly restored. TikTok returned to the App Store and Google Play Store in February.

A number of investors competed to purchase the app, and after President Trump extended the TikTok ban deadline for the fourth time, the battle is finally over. As of December, TikTok officially signed a deal to divest a portion of its U.S. entity to a group of American investors. And now the deal is set to close this week, Semafor reported on Thursday.

This comes nearly three months after President Trump signed an executive order that approves the sale of TikTok’s U.S. operations to an American investor group.
