NASA Orders Its First-Ever Space Station Medical Evacuation After Astronaut Falls Ill

NASA has ordered its first medical evacuation from the International Space Station in its 25-year history after an astronaut in the orbital laboratory fell ill with a “serious” but undisclosed issue.

The U.S. space agency said in a press conference that a crew of four led by the U.S. commander Zena Cardman would return to Earth in the coming days, earlier than planned.

Officials did not identify the astronaut or the issue, citing patient privacy. “This was a serious medical condition,” NASA's administrator, Jared Isaacman, said. “That is why we’re pursuing this path.”

The decision to evacuate the team in a space capsule comes after a series of hurried NASA statements about a medical situation that arose on Wednesday. The development later forced the agency to cancel its first spacewalk of the year.

What the medical issue might be is a matter of speculation, but it is clear that it was not properly treatable on the ISS.

The ISS will not be left empty. Three other people are living and working aboard. The US astronaut Chris Williams and Russia’s Sergei Mikayev and Sergei Kud-Sverchkov, arrived in November on board a Soyuz rocket for an eight-month stay.

‘Physical AI’ Is Coming for Your Car

The giant CES consumer tech showcase that just took place in Las Vegas showed how the world of robots, cars, and chipsets are growing ever closer.

Google DeepMind, Boston Dynamics, and Korean automaker Hyundai announced they will have humanoid robots putting in a day’s work on the Hyundai factory floor in the coming months.

Ford, meanwhile, said it will sell a system that allows drivers to operate their vehicles without looking at the road in front of them by 2028.

The Afeela, a battery-powered collaboration between Sony and Honda, will drive by itself in most situations at some point, date TBD.

Nvidia will supply the chips for Chinese automaker Geely’s new “intelligent driving system,” which will eventually transition to what the company calls “high-level autonomous driving.”

Nvidia is also involved in Mercedes-Benz’s new hands-off driving system, to debut in the U.S. this year. Eventually, the company says the system should be able to drive between home and work without help.

The takeaway? "Physical AI" is coming for your car, whether or not you like it.

[Exclusive] My Interview With a Quantum Exec.

Yesterday, I spoke with Dr. Pouya Dianat, the Chief Revenue Officer of Quantum Computing Inc. (QUBT), for an exclusive interview.

Quantum computing has become one of the hottest themes in the market. Money is flowing into quantum stocks fast. Yet most investors are buying these stocks without knowing what quantum actually is or the state of the technology.

This conversation made one thing very clear. Quantum computing is real. But it is also early, fragile, and still impractical at scale for most businesses. Dr. Dianat says widespread commercial use is more likely a 2030s story, which in stock market terms is an eternity away.

Between now and then, we will almost certainly see recessions, geopolitical shocks, and multiple market cycles. There will also be other technological breakthroughs that capture attention and capital long before quantum reaches broad adoption.

That perspective matters. There is no need to rush into the quantum hype by buying stocks today simply because the story sounds early or exciting. Quantum will have its moment. It just is not yet.
