Musk Cries Monopoly

Ari Goldschmidt:

Elon Musk's xAI Sues Apple and OpenAI Over AI Competition, App Store Rankings

Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence startup xAI sued Apple and ChatGPT maker OpenAI in U.S. federal court in Texas on Monday, accusing them of illegally conspiring to thwart competition for artificial intelligence.

Apple and OpenAI have "locked up markets to maintain their monopolies and prevent innovators like X and xAI from competing," the lawsuit said. Apple’s partnership with OpenAI has integrated its AI platform ChatGPT into iPhones, iPads, and Macs.

"If not for its exclusive deal with OpenAI, Apple would have no reason to refrain from more prominently featuring the X app and the Grok app in its App Store," the lawsuit continued.

In the lawsuit, xAI said it is seeking billions of dollars in alleged damages.

Musk had threatened to sue Cupertino, California-based Apple earlier this month, saying in a post on his social media platform X that Apple's behavior "makes it impossible for any AI company besides OpenAI to reach #1 in the App Store.

BitMine Ethereum Stash Nears $8 Billion After ETH Hits All-Time High

BitMine Immersion Technologies' Ethereum treasury neared $8 billion after the firm added almost $900 million in ETH to its holdings last week amid a price surge that sent the asset to record highs.

The firm added more than 190,500 ETH to its balance sheet, bringing its total Ethereum holdings to 1.71 million ETH, just less than 1.5% of the entire token supply. BitMine increased its cash and crypto holdings by $2.2 billion for the week.

BitMine is part of a small but growing wave of companies that have pivoted their focus to build Ethereum treasuries. It is the second largest publicly traded crypto treasury, trailing only Michael Saylor’s Strategy.

Last week Lee and company boosted the treasury by $1.7 billion when it added more than 373,000 ETH — a move that jumped it above Bitcoin miner and BTC treasury MARA Holdings in terms of dollar value.

Ethereum jumped to an all-time high just shy of $5,000 over the weekend, the second time in three days that it had reached a new record. The second largest crypto by market value retreated early Monday.

Robomart Unveils New Delivery Robot With $3 Flat Fee

Robomart, a startup that builds self-driving delivery robots, is unveiling its latest robot with an ambitious goal of using it to make on-demand delivery profitable.

The Los Angeles-based company announced its patented Robomart RM5 on Monday. The level-four autonomous vehicle can carry up to 500 pounds and is made up of 10 individual lockers that hold customer orders. This structure is designed to allow for batch ordering so a robot can work on multiple deliveries at the same time.

Robomart plans to use these new robots to operate an on-demand delivery business model similar to those of established food delivery platforms, Ali Ahmed, Robomart co-founder and CEO, told TechCrunch. This model involves retailers partnering with Robomart to open their own storefronts on Robomart’s app — which is similar to apps like UberEats or DoorDash.

What is different is the cost structure for the customers. Each time a customer orders from Robomart they pay a flat $3 delivery fee.
