Can a startup make chips cheaper than industry giants?

Using X-rays from a particle accelerator instead of ultraviolet light, a secretive Silicon Valley company claims it can print next-generation semiconductors at half the cost and bring chipmaking to American soil. 

Backed by Peter Thiel’s Founders Fund and valued at $1 billion before shipping a single machine, it has quietly drawn attention from JD Vance and national security officials in Washington.

If their plan works, it could bring chipmaking back home, redraw the map of global power, and ignite a new kind of tech arms race.

Nvidia stock rose as much as 3.4% at the market open, pushing its market capitalization above $5 trillion for the first time as the chip giant continues to be the biggest winner from the AI boom.

The company reached the milestone after comments from President Trump ahead of a planned meeting with CEO Jensen Huang, which added to optimism around prospects for Nvidia's sales in China.

This comes just three months after the company crossed the $4 trillion mark. And think, it took Nvidia about 13 months to go from $3 trillion to $4 trillion in valuation.
