Grok Turns Snitch

Greg Guenthner:

Grok Made Hundreds of Thousands of Chats Public, Searchable on Google

Conversations with Grok, the chatbot from Elon Musk's xAI, can be publicly searched on Google depending on which buttons were pressed, a new report from Forbes revealed.

Grok's "share" button — what you might use to email or text a chatbot conversation — creates a unique URL that is made available to search engines like Google, the report states. That effectively means the "share" button publishes your conversation for the world.

Forbes reported there is no warning of this feature and that thus far more than 370,000 conversations have been indexed by Google. Some of the conversations reportedly contained sensitive information, such as medical questions, personal details, and, in at least one instance, a password.

Musk's Grok isn't the only AI chatbot to make chats public, however. ChatGPT similarly made chats searchable on Google after users clicked the "share" button. Recently, OpenAI quickly reversed course, however, after a backlash.

Musk — who is aggressively feuding with OpenAI these days — took a victory lap when that ChatGPT news broke earlier this year. "Grok FTW," he wrote on X. Now it appears his company is having the exact same issue.

Wyoming State Debuts U.S. Dollar Stablecoin On Seven Blockchains

Wyoming has become the first U.S. public entity to issue a blockchain-based stablecoin, launching the Frontier Stable Token (FRNT) on seven different blockchains.

The Wyoming Stable Token Commission announced the mainnet release on Aug. 19, positioning the state at the forefront of government-issued digital assets.

FRNT is fully backed by U.S. dollars and short-duration Treasuries held in trust, with a legislative mandate requiring 2% overcollateralization.

According to the Commission, the token is designed to provide secure, transparent, and efficient digital transactions for individuals, businesses, and institutions.

The stablecoin is available on Arbitrum (CRYPTO: ARB), Avalanche (CRYPTO: AVAX), Base, Ethereum (CRYPTO: ETH), Optimism (CRYPTO: OP), Polygon (CRYPTO: MATIC), and Solana (CRYPTO: SOL).

The initiative marks the first state-issued stablecoin to reach production across multiple blockchain networks in the U.S., with policymakers describing it as a model for modernizing financial transactions while maintaining regulatory oversight.

China Weighs Yuan-Backed Stablecoins in Major Policy Shift

China, one of the most restrictive global jurisdictions for cryptocurrencies, is reportedly considering allowing Chinese yuan-backed stablecoins in what would be a major policy reversal.

If approved, China’s plan for stablecoin use would mark a major shift in its approach to crypto after the country banned crypto trading and mining in September 2021.

The news followed multiple reports suggesting that mainland China had been warming up to stablecoins amid a U.S. stablecoin push in 2025.

One use case for a potential yuan-backed stablecoin from mainland China would be the implementation of stablecoins for cross-border trade and payments with some countries. China’s potential entry into the stablecoin market would align with its ambitions to globalize the yuan and help it compete with key global reserve currencies such as the dollar and the euro.

This issue is expected to be discussed at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit that will be held between Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 in Tianjin.
