Enrique Abeyta:

Highway Thieves Are Spoofing GPS To Steal Millions in Data Center-Bound Cargo

Highway thieves are using sophisticated digital tactics that investigators worry make it easy to rob trucks carrying millions in expensive data center equipment.

NBC News spoke to "several industry leaders, consultants, and investigators advising law enforcement" offices probing the biggest thefts yet and reported that since June, thieves have "made away with more than $100 million in data center freight."

Here's how they said thieves get away with it…

First, thieves hack freight brokers' accounts on shipment-listing websites and post fake shipments to lure real bids, then send a malicious link to any trucking companies that respond. Once victims click, thieves install software to take control of their accounts and start bidding on real shipments. Sometimes, a real delivery driver is hired to collect the cargo, unaware of the scam, and other times fake driver's licenses are used to get accomplices hired. Either way, the goods are eventually transferred to a driver working with the thieves to resell the gear, and, in one of the largest thefts, tracking coordinates were spoofed to prevent digital monitoring.

Equipment commonly targeted includes "servers, fiber-optic cables, computer memory chips, copper wires, and bitcoin mining machines."

Anthropic (ANT): Brand New IPO Details

I spent the last 24 hours reading Anthropic's brand new 400+ page S-1. An S-1 is the massive document companies file with the SEC before going public. It contains everything from financials and risk factors to executive compensation and business strategy.

Anthropic's S-1 is particularly interesting because we've never gotten a detailed look inside one of the world's leading AI companies. And some of the numbers are absolutely insane.

Revenue just 112X'd. Losses are decreasing quickly. And if Anthropic is right that AI could eventually become more transformative than the internet, electricity or even industrialization, the upside could be enormous.

But there's one very important number we still don't have: The IPO valuation.

Anthropic hasn't released an official price range yet. However, early whispers suggest the company could seek a valuation somewhere between $1.5 trillion and $2 trillion.

If that's where Anthropic prices, investors would be paying 23X to 31X Anthropic's $65 billion annualized revenue run rate. That's an enormous valuation – even for a company growing this quickly. And it's why I'm not ready to tell you to buy ANT just yet.

Once we get Anthropic's official IPO range, I'll tell you whether I think ANT is actually worth buying.

Scientists Invent Implant That Can Transform Sugar in the Blood To Treat Type 2 Diabetes

An experimental medical implant that removes excess sugar from the blood has shown promise in treating diabetes and obesity in tests with lab mice.

Coupled with a continuous glucose monitor, which tracks blood sugar levels in real time, the tiny device is designed to adjust blood sugar levels according to a patient's needs. It does so using a chemical reaction powered by electricity. In the mouse experiments, it prevented sudden insulin spikes and promoted fat loss.

The implant, described Oct. 22 in the journal Science, could offer a completely new way to treat diabetes and obesity, study co-author Martin Fussenegger, a professor of biotechnology and bioengineering at ETH Zurich, said. His team is now working toward testing the device in additional lab animals, and eventually, humans.

"We see [the implant] as a potentially powerful addition to the therapeutic toolbox, one that could eventually be combined with established treatments and lifestyle interventions," Fussenegger said.
