Elon Musk Pledged To Give Every U.S. Child One Share of SpaceX Stock Next Year

SpaceX (SPCX) and Tesla (TSLA) CEO Elon Musk pledged on Monday to give one share of SpaceX stock to every child in the U.S. next year.

"Next year, I will give one of my SpaceX shares to every kid in America," Musk wrote in a post on X. "This will be the first of many." Musk gave no specifics on the mechanics of the gift, its recipients or its timing.

SpaceX stock closed Friday at $146.03. Using a count of about 72 million U.S. children, the gift would be worth about $10.5 billion.

The pledge followed an Anthropic announcement on Sunday that it intends to earmark a 5% stake for a newly created public benefit fund, pending shareholder approval. Anthropic's board could add another 2% each time the company's valuation climbs 50% past an undisclosed baseline.

Musk replied to Anthropic's post on X, recommending that the company give the shares "directly to the public," and added that he would do so.

Anthropic's Proposed AI Safety Bill Only Kicks In if 50 Deaths or $1 Billion in Damages Are on the Line

Anthropic is lobbying for an AI safety bill that will allow the government to block an AI model's release only if it poses a risk of causing $1 billion in damages or killing or injuring more than 50 people.

According to Politico, an independent third party registered with the Department of Commerce would periodically evaluate the lab and its AI models. It also noted that the lab may pay the evaluators, but only if the payment does not affect their independence.

The bill says the risk should come from the potential creation or release of a bioweapon, AI-powered or -enabled cyberattacks, or an AI lab losing control of an AI model or agents. If there is a chance that any of these events are about to happen, it requires the evaluator to report it to the department within 72 hours, after which the department would have to bring all the evidence in front of a federal judge in the District Court for the District of Columbia, who would then determine if the model release should be halted or not.

However, the proposed law also notes that no other department, agency, or officer in the U.S. can order an AI lab to stop releasing its model, except the Commerce Department.

U.S. Rep Proposes Bill To Give Video Game Buyers "Ownership," Not "A License"

A new bill proposed by Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY) aims to establish new regulations that would ensure that "buying a video game would give the consumer ownership of the game rather than a license to play it," including assurances that they can continue to access the games for years after they are released.

The announcement names NBA 2K25 as an example of the problem the bill aims to solve; that game launched on September 6, 2025, but is scheduled to become unplayable on December 31 due to server shutdowns. The bill, which is called the Power to Players Act, directs the FTC to take action to prevent outcomes like that in the future.

"I think there should be a simple rule: if you pay for it, you own it," Torres told Kotaku. He called the new status quo the bill proposes a "restoration to the historical norm," referencing how most games were experienced by players back in the '90s.

The bill comes at a time when game ownership and preservation is a hot-button issue. Some consumers have been protesting Sony's announcement that it plans to discontinue releases of PlayStation games on physical media.
