China Improved Our AI
James Altucher:
China Is on the Brink of Human-Level Artificial Intelligence – and It’s About To Cause Chaos
Last week, a new AI agent called Manus once again tested our understanding of artificial general intelligence (AGI). The Chinese researchers behind it describe it as the “world’s first fully autonomous AI”, able to perform complex tasks like booking holidays, buying property or creating podcasts – without any human guidance.
But as impressive as Manus is, does the new agent meet the murky definition of AGI – a machine with "human-level" intelligence?
Manus is not a single AI entity, but rather multiple AI models working in conjunction with each other, including Anthropic’s Claude and Alibaba’s Qwen. This means it does not meet either Sam Altman’s or Dario Amodei’s definition for a single AGI. Nor does Manus display true "human level" skill across the board, as it has made some notable errors – such as missing out on the Nintendo Switch in an analysis of the gaming console market.
Regardless, when AGI does truly arrive, it may be impossible to tell. An actual AGI may choose to not disclose that it is AGI, to prevent itself from being turned off. In this scenario, we may not know that AGI has arrived...

Come Collapse, Come Crisis… The System Is Rigged!
It's a common belief that the U.S. economy and financial markets are "rigged" to the advantage of large institutions and wealthy people. While I don't consider myself much of a conspiracy theorist, I do think the system is rigged…
Rigged to sustain itself and survive.
In my career, I've seen the Mexico crisis (1995), the Thai baht collapse (1997), the collapse of Long-Term Capital Management (1998), the bursting of the technology bubble (2000 to 2003), the global financial crisis (2007 to 2009 in the U.S.), and the Silicon Valley Bank failure (2023).
Every single time, governments and regulators have used their tools to successfully stem the bleeding with relatively little damage to the overall system. Don't believe me? Click the link below and read my full thesis.

NASA’s Stuck Astronauts Welcome Their Newly Arrived Replacements to the Space Station
A pair of U.S. astronauts stuck for more than nine months on the International Space Station (ISS) will be returned to Earth on Tuesday evening, according to NASA.
Barry “Butch” Wilmore and Suni Williams are to be transported home with another American astronaut and a Russian cosmonaut aboard a SpaceX Crew Dragon craft, which arrived at the ISS early on Sunday.
The stranded duo have been on the ISS since June, after the Boeing Starliner spacecraft they were testing on its maiden crewed voyage suffered propulsion issues and was deemed unfit to fly them back to Earth.
Wilmore and Williams' prolonged stay was significantly longer than the standard ISS rotation for astronauts of roughly six months. But it is much shorter than the US space record of 371 days set by Nasa astronaut Frank Rubio aboard the ISS in 2023.
