Bernie Sanders' 20-Year AI Threat
Davis Wilson:
New Bernie Sanders Bill Would Ban Superintelligent AI and Threaten Developers With 20 Years in Prison
Bernie Sanders, one of the most vocal opponents of unregulated AI and the race toward superintelligence, has announced the Ban Artificial Superintelligence Act.
One of the more worrying sections for anyone who refuses to adhere to the act's restrictions is the penalties: ignore them, and the punishment is up to 20 years in prison. That's similar to the penalty for unlawfully developing nuclear weapons.
The act would permanently ban the development and deployment of superintelligent AI and temporarily pause advanced AI development until a federal regulator has established safety rules.
Beyond the United States' borders, it also directs the U.S. to pursue international agreements to prevent superintelligence from being developed anywhere in the world.
"The leaders of the major AI companies publicly acknowledge that they do not fully understand the technology and that it is escaping their control," Sanders said. "The future of humanity cannot be left in the hands of a handful of Big Tech oligarchs."
Many Americans are moving to an anti-AI stance. But pro-AI politicians, including President Trump, say slowing AI development is a national security risk and leaves the U.S. in a weakened position against rivals such as China.

Wall St Falls As AI Anxiety Batters Nvidia, Chipmakers
Wall Street's main indexes fell on Monday, pummeled by a selloff in heavyweight AI stocks after top U.S. executives raised safety concerns and called for slowing the development of artificial-intelligence capabilities.
Shares of Nvidia tumbled 3%, hitting their lowest level in nearly three weeks, while "Magnificent Seven" peer Amazon shed more than 1%. Intel, AMD, and Marvell Technology were down 5%, 5%, and 6%, respectively. Eight of the 11 major S&P 500 indexes traded lower, with industrials and technology leading declines.
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei on Saturday called on artificial intelligence companies to slow the pace at which they advance model capabilities. Elon Musk, who runs xAI, and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said they agreed with Amodei.
The losses reflect waning exuberance as the frenzied race to develop increasingly capable AI models gives way to a clear-eyed reassessment.
Concerns about the potential harms of AI intensified when Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon resigned last week and said the "people building AI earnestly believe that it could kill us all by the end of the decade."

Chris Campbell:
The Most Hated Megacap
Here's the story on Ethereum, the most hated megacap crypto…
Wall Street is putting real assets on the blockchain. Treasuries. Money-market funds. Private credit. The tokenized real-world asset market crossed $31 billion this summer – up more than 400% since early 2025.
When a serious institution does this for real, it uses Ethereum. Ether hosts roughly two-thirds of every tokenized asset on a public chain. BlackRock's BUIDL fund was born there. The DTCC, Nasdaq, and the NYSE are all wiring tokenized securities into their plumbing on it. Robinhood's tokenized stocks are built there.
They all picked Ethereum because it is the oldest smart-contract network still standing. Outside of Bitcoin, it has the deepest security.
I'm calling for $5,000 Ethereum by 2027. That's a double from here. And it only takes Ether back to a high it already printed once.
Yes, the bear case is real. The overall market is, and has been, treading uncertain waters. The ditch could get deeper before it gets shallower. But that's always the deal at the bottom. You buy the thing everyone swears is finished and going back down. By the time the public comes around, the price has already moved and the discount's gone.
