Nvidia Thinks AI Can Solve Electrical Grid Problems Caused by AI

Nvidia announced Thursday it’s partnering with EPRI, a power industry R&D organization, to use AI to solve problems facing the electrical grid. Perhaps ironically, the issues are largely caused by rising power demand from AI itself.

The Open Power AI Consortium, which includes a number of electrical utilities and tech companies, says it will use what are known as domain-specific AI models to devise new ways to tackle problems the power industry is predicted to face in the coming years.

The industry is seeing surging demand from data centers in the U.S. and elsewhere as AI ramps up the need for computing power. Electricity demand is expected to grow by 4% annually in the coming years, nearly double over 2023 figures.

One recent study found that by curtailing use when demand on the grid peaks, including shifting tasks that aren’t time sensitive to periods when demand is low, an additional 76 GB of capacity could be unlocked in the U.S. It’s a not insignificant amount, making up approximately 10% of peak demand in the U.S.

FBI Undercover: Raw and Unfiltered | Scott Payne's 28-Years Infiltrating America's Seediest Organization

As you listen to this episode of The James Altucher Show, ask yourself: would you do what my guest Scott Payne did for 28 years? He’s a retired undercover FBI agent who spent nearly three decades infiltrating some of the most dangerous groups in America—white supremacist organizations, outlaw biker gangs, and domestic terror cells.

His new book, Code Name: Pale Horse, reveals the harrowing details of his undercover life, including moments where he was seconds away from being exposed and killed.

Scott spent 18 months embedded with the Outlaws motorcycle gang. In one chilling moment, they decided to strip-search him while he was wired up, a scenario that could have ended him on the spot. He also infiltrated the KKK in Alabama, adopting the codename Pale Horse to penetrate a violent neo-Nazi cell known as The Base, which was actively planning attacks and preparing for a so-called race war.

This is raw, unfiltered, and straight from the front lines of America’s most dangerous extremist groups. Scott took unimaginable risks to save lives and bring criminals to justice—all while balancing a wife, two daughters, and his faith. This episode is an unmissable look at the dark corners of our country and the people working to expose them.

NASA To Launch Asteroid Hunting Spacecraft in 2027

NASA has a high-tech plan to save Earth if an asteroid ever comes barreling toward the planet. The NEO Surveyor, set to launch in 2027, is the first spacecraft specifically designed to hunt large asteroids and comets that could harm Earth.

After its launch, the NEO Surveyor will be able to spot about 90% of asteroids and comets that might pose a hazard to Earth within a range of about 30 million miles. Those that are smaller than about 500 feet in diameter are nearly impossible to see from Earth but not from space.

The Surveyor’s announcement comes as scientists have almost fully ruled out any threat from the asteroid 2024 YR4. At one point, the odds of a strike in 2032 were as high as about 3% and topped the world’s asteroid-risk lists but are now around 0.001%.

Notably, NASA has already proved it is capable of redirecting an asteroid, should one pose a serious threat to Earth. It successfully struck an asteroid with a spacecraft in 2022.
